Exciting times for Whatcom Wineries

I have been horribly reticent in updating this blog, but I'm ready to jump back on board!

Rumor has it that the wineries of Whatcom County have formed an association, and that a winery tour map will soon be printed. This is excellent! As I and many other fans of our local wineries have been saying for some time, we have some outstanding wine here in the fourth corner.

Washington state is the nation's second largest wine producer, and the wine industry is growing by leaps and bounds, with more than 500 wineries in the state now. (Check out the Washington Wine Commission webpage for more statistics and info.) Though no wine lover can resist the pull of wine regions like the Yakima Valley or Walla Walla, there's something just as fun, and perhaps more rewarding, about seeking out the less well known artisan wineries in more remote areas of the state.

But if you're reading this blog, you probably don't need
me to tell you this! You already know about our wonderful boutique wineries here in Whatcom County. Keep an eye out for exciting new developments on the horizon... I'll keep you posted.

Dear wine enthusiasts,
Would you be willing to help Bellingham Arthritis Foundation get some local wines and/or wine tasting certificates for an upcoming Charity Golf Classic and Dinner Auction (to be held June 25 at Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club).

We could use your sophisticated help! Wines get lots of interest at our auction and this would be wonderful opportunity to showcase Whatcom wineries to our Seattle and other out-of-town guests. Not to mention, educate many local wine aficionados…
Support of this fundraiser gives you a power to bring us closer to a cure for a world free of arthritis pain. Thank you so much for your anticipated help!
Gratefully,
Barbara Osen
